Traitorous Swine!
« on: March 23, 2011, 08:35:58 am »

So, I'm walking around with my one surviving fodder party member, when I'm ambushed by a group of goblins. Well, the first two I meet are a hammerman and human pikeman. I rush the goblin, but he doesn't attack me, and even helps me kill the Pikeman. Then I talk to him, and he's friendly. Then I recruited him into my party.

I can't even think of a proper question for this. Just... What?

Did you start the game as an outsider? That's usually how this kind of thing where bandits are friendly to you happens. Basically, because you don't start off as a member of a civilization, you don't start off automatically hostile to enemies of that civ like bandits, so you can talk to them all cordially-like. If you start attacking them, they'll eventually become hostile to you, but it's fine if you don't want that. Free allies popping up out of nowhere and all that.

Yeah, I was a human from the town nearby. The other goblins in his group were all hostile, he helped me kill them after joining my party.

well, maybe he was an important leader, sometimes the leaders can act in strange ways

were you tried to explore your fortress that got destroyed by demons or what?

You should check the goblin out in Legends mode when you get a chance, see what his history is.

I did. He didn't have much of one, just that when he joined me, he became of enemy of all the goblin things. However, when I retired, he began wandering and I lost him. :/

And my Dragonwork fortress? Yeah, I went back there and was manhandled by a demon before I even got inside. Waaaaaay dangerous.

This is probably the loyalty cascade bug, where important leaders aren't marked properly as members of their civ (and thus fight against their squadmates once spawned). That goblin you recruited probably took a swipe at his human squadmate, which then got him marked as an enemy of his civ. You were lucky enough to talk to him at that point, before his mates killed him.
