Appointed Baron
« on: March 18, 2011, 01:26:10 pm »

So I was given the choice to appoint my Baron, and stupidly I appointed my Mayor/Expedition Leader/Bookkeeper/Legendary-Artifact Mechanic and now he is completely useless. I have tried editing the entity_default raws under the save but they don't seem to do much of anything at all. Is there something specific that I need to add or change to the .txt file or am I screwed? If anything I would like to just be able to appoint a new Baron myself without having to kill one of my most useful dwarves.

Entity changes don't effect an existing world.  After all, the entity already exists.  Sadly, no, all I can say here is "you live and learn.  Losing is fun!"

Sad days

There is a solution!
Code: [Select]
[SUCCESSION:BY_HEIR]1) make a burrow for him and all your female dwarves
2) lock them up
3) ??? <-wait 12 years and kill the baron
4) profit

EDIT: There is just one little problem I just realize :S he dies

The dwarf I appointed baron in my fortress continued to perform all his pre-baron jobs.

or maybe throw them into the large hadron collider to atom-smash them instead.
Not to mention to throw all available animals into tiny pits.

Yup. My Countess does the occasional bit of mining, not as much as she used to do but I can sometimes see her doing something. In fact, I advise you to make your trader your baron. It speeds things up and reduces all that annoying 'Store item->eat->drink->sleep->traders leaving now >:(

I thought it was decided that nobles, at present, will continue to do all of their commoner jobs?  Balls, I still have my baroness training dogs.

Yeah, in every game I've gotten a baron they'll keep working. The only difference is instead of "No Job" they are listed as "Noble", but otherwise they keep working just fine.
