He has a 0.3GHz Pentium II. I doubt he'll be able to run that.

That's why I said not necessarily Ubuntu. As suggested above, Puppy is mainstream and a very good start.

I can vouch for Puppy. It's not big, it's not shiny, but it's incredibly user friendly.
...I can see why they called it that, to be honest.

Although, all this talk of OS has gotten me wondering... I know this is just a cheap nothing expected computer, but what Architecture does it use? It certainly isn't going to become lightening bolt fast, but there may be a cheap component out there that'll double it's speed or something.

Pentium II processor, its something with i and some random numbers i cant remember like this ixxxx, its not an X84 tho..
