Goblin sieges still bugged

I suck at search - I'm sure there are multiple old threads about this. I tried to find one with intent to resurrect it, but didn't succeed. Well, the point is that the goblin siege bug seemes to be still active. They come at the edge of map and then just step around there and never leave. It is annoying, I hope it can be fixed in the next version.

You have to admit, though, they do more closely fit the concept of a siege with this bug in place - they effectively stop all Caravans from coming in until they're gone.

It's been reported; it was never marked as fixed in the Dev Notes for this release.

No, they don't stop all the caravans. In my map they never stopped one, it depends where they appear.
It is annoying as it is, I ve never used cheap tricks to deal with sieges and they where I had the most fun.

I don't see goblin strategy meetings going along the lines of "Woah guys - lets take it easy here and just try to wait them out."

Not having the goblins come after me has been the most challenging part.  My fortified walls are now useless.  It is still fun to run out to them and try knocking them off.  Although, losing so many dwarves is always a challange.  Hopefully this will be fixed soon, but until then, just consider it a challange to take out those darn goblins without your traps and walls.  Just don't get too attached to your melee dwarfs, becuase most of them won't last.

yes a siege of 8 goblin crossbow men is rather hopeless as one stray shot to the head can obliterate any dwarf

The solution, of course, is to use siege weapons. I've broken the last three sieges I've been under with catapults. It's fun to knock goblins off the plateau, as well.  :D

I'm curious about this. Is it just a constant thing that they sit there or are there any factors?

When I had a siege the goblins just sat at the edge of the map, but I thought maybe they were scared of the zombie elephants between them and my fortress.. I guess not?

On a completely unrelated note, how do I keep my idiot dwarves from running out to gather up the items the goblins drop after I pummel the first with a rock?  The first goblin siege I had ended in a magnificent failure thanks to the morons running out to grab the goblin's garb after the first one was killed.  This dragged the whole set of goblins up to my siege operators thus killing them.  I didn't try telling the dwarves to stay inside because I figured that'd send the siege operators back inside and totally defeat the purpose.  Not that this is a bug or that it has anything to do with this.

Yes, they do stop all caravans. No, it has nothing to do with where the goblins are located. Caravans do not appear on the map if there is a siege in progress. Traders may come before a siege (with goblins hot on their heels), but they will never come during a siege.

You probably need to manually 'forbid' all of the goblin equipment until it's safe to collect.

[d]esignate [f]orbidden the entire area every time anyone dies and it makes dwarves ignore forbidden items (and buildings in case your dwarves run to reload outside stonefall/cage traps in the middle of the siegers)
