On the year 162 of the Age of Myth,
Kol Imushdeg, citizen of the 'Strategic Daggers' (in darwen: Arcethurist) formed the company 'Accidental Gems'. His goal was to establish a new realm of dwarven glory, where he could eventually become King!.
He recluited 6 ladies to go with him, as he feared competition from a fellow male dwarf, and used all of him money to get the basic supplies.
For this, he found a perfect spot, marked on a very old map of the white hills, given to him long ago by his father, who was an explorer.
He recluited 2 miners, a potter, a farmer, a brewer, and a certified business manager. He himself would be the camp's carpenter.
He also got enought food and drinks for half a year, a couple of picks, an anvil, an axe, a couple of cats, and 6 turkeys.
All set, the caravan began! After a long trip, they were in their new realm, the DiamindLantern!
Upon arriving, they were amazed with the place. A flat piece of land, with a clean Stream running through it. Some horses where pasturing on the south, and a couple of Aligators rested on the northern marshes.
They picked an strategic place to unpack, where the stream acted as a nice natural barrier.
Immediatly Deduk, the strategic manager, began explaining what was needed. First both miners where to dig a hole, that would become the underground fort entrance. At the same time, Kol was told to make some beds. But first, he would need to collect some wood. Kol didnt like the idea, as he was the expedition leader, and not a wood cutter by proffesion, but as the sole male of the camp, he wanted to impress the ladies with some axe cutting.
Happily, he went to the side of the river to cut a big willow right there, when a huge Aligator jumped from the water and grabbed his foot. A short fight ensued, where the gloriuos future king of DiamondLantern lost his life. The Aligator was badly hurt, but managed to run away, with one of Kol's legs as a trophy.
Later postmortem examination determined the cause of death as MISSING EVERYTHING from the waist up! LOL
Meanwhile, on the 7th level (down), the miners found a cave!
This was bad news, as the first 4 levels ended up being just sand and clay. The would be just 3 levels of rock to build a fortress.
Since the leader (and only male!) was dead, a new leader had to be assigned. The obvious choice was from the start the manager Deduk.
With now only 6 people, things where going to get hard.
The basic needs were:
-Food productionFor the moment, the dwarves are going to eat nothing but turkey eggs. Deduk herself would take care of the kitchen.
-Drink productionFor the moment, they would have to do it with water from the stream. As aligators could give problems, and dwarves dont like water, some sort of beer had to be made. For this, and for the previous point, an underground farm was planned.
-ProtectionA wall was to be raised betwen two points of the stream, closing the perimeter. A more advanced defense would be made in the future, on the 3rd level. Also, the hole to the cavers should be closed soon.
-Living spaceBeds, stockpiles, workshops, and most importantly, a dinning hall. All that was in the needs.
A farm was made. For it, a big place was opened on the 2nd level. A system was made, using floodgates and levers, to connect both the stream (A) and the caves (B), so the soil gets muddy. A temporary flooding of it would be done. When all the place if covered with water, the channel to the caves would be opened. The bad part, is that when the water was flushed, both cats fell to the caves with the current. Now they wander down there, waiting their imminent deaths.
As for the living place, both miners began making it on the 6th level. Private rooms would be made on a small corner of the 7th place.
But for now, beds would be on the corridor, and a temporary multi-type stock was set.
Basic workshops, and a cementery (for Kol) was also dug out.
As said earlier, a wall was planned on the exterior (level 0). Also, a couple of bridged were to be made, to use the resources on the other side of the stream, and allowing passage to caravans and migrants.
About that last thing... good news! Migrants! Eight new dwarves came, a couple of new miners, a trapper, a tanner, a carpenter, a fisher, an armorer, and a mechanic.
Most got a temporary job as masons, to help building the bridges and the wall.
Sadly, while building the bridge, the Brewer Ablel, and the migrant Rovod, fell to the river, where they drowned to death. Apparently, dwarves cant build walls over rivers. Well, too bad.
A couple of seasons ,again we are bleesed with 6 more
fools immigrants. Betwen them, a dwarv with martial knowledge. Good! We could use a soldier. By the way, the wall is ready, but... yeah! Now I know whats missing, dogs! Kol didnt bought dogs, and there is no way to catch thieves now.
Another bad new. The winter struck, and the river froze! The back line of the fort is now totally open, and worse, the alcohol production have not begun yet! We will have to build walls all arround the river side.
With that, we close this report. Next time, the winter and the next year!.
Before closing, images of the whole fortress so far. Letter tells how they connect betwen floors.
