Hoe exactly do you find them on the world map? They are on, I just can't find them.

they look like river starts, but are grey.  Some aren't revealed by default, and must be found by adventurers.  Once you retire the adventurer (passing your knowledge on to the world as a crazy old coot who won't shut up about the time he was an adventurer, I always imagined), you can embark on them in fortress mode.

Or you can set "all caves visible" to 1 in world gen.
