Absolutely. I decided that walls weren't sufficiently Dwarfy, and so I went ahead and designed a flushing entrance. Seriously surprised the first goblins to get there. They managed to get into the entry way before the water got there, and got flushed back out.

I guess I'd better replace those hatches. Hmm.. now, to find some magma to get a back up safety system.

What do you do when trolls bash in your pumps?

Are there any titans that can swim and destroy buildings? what do you do when they bash down your floodgates?

Haven't had trolls get my pumps. I've got two three level watch towers, with only underground access to them. And the only access to the pumps is from inside the fortress, behind the hatches. So only swimmers that can punch through the hatches are a threat, and two Pressure plates are set inside in case something sneaks through and smashes one of the floodgates.

I can't get stone sense to work, or I'd post a screen shot.

You can get stone sense working by downloading the updated files from their site:

If you are lazy, I upped this version, is working for me in .21:

Fortress Overseer ( http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=63484.0 ) is working. I would love to see screenshots of your FlushOMat entrance.

The best combination of convenience and utility is to have part of the map covered with an aquifer and the other not. I've worked out a very convenient drowning trap design in that condition since the last couple of maps I've played are like that. I always look for multi-biome embarks now to get as many metals as possible. Still, it can be hard to find.

Drowning trap with full reservoir.

To drain, raise the bridges to expose the aquifer layer underneath.

In theory you could use it in an all aquifer embark but it would a lot more work.

I edit them out. I'm guessing I'll put them back in later when I want the challenge and use they provide. For now, I'm happily digging into the ground unfettered by them.

Thanks arkometha. That works great.

Unfortunately I've mis-placed the save with the aquifer entrance, but my current game has an aquifer, so I'll take a few screens of the construction process. Thankfully this one is both soil, and not over the entire map. Makes constructing it easier. Plus I can use a hanging punch.

I thought this topic was happily resting? Did it get necro'd at some time without me noticing, or did it never die?
