Maybe I'll use puppies instead.  The animals are kept behind a fortification.  (During an active siege, my alert level is chosen to force civilians to stay within a central set of burrows.)

Code: [Select]
WWWWW
W..@W
WFWWW

F = fortification
W = wall
. = empty floor
@ = chain

Depending on where the animal is on the chain, it can/can't be shot at through the fortification tile?  My goal is to draw the attackers inward by presenting them with juicy targets, that they can't actually kill.

Well, I had a rather large "uninvited visitor" show up in this week's fort.  Fortunately, it couldn't fly, so it dodged off the 3-tile wide bridge and went splat before it made it to the row of cages.  I've gone to a 3-section design now, with each section being more like 15-18 tiles in length instead of just 3x11.
