This may have been discussed before in many of those threads on slavery, I think.

In a later release, perhaps creatures from a civilization can have varying personal ethics codes that more or less conform to their civilization's ethics code, which may allow for more complex relationships between intelligent creatures.  It might also become a starting point for developing a system in which intelligent creatures from other civilizations can shift allegiance to your fortress's civilization if their personal ethics code is compatible, or your civilization has done some favor for them, or some other random reason like desperation caused by starvation.
Also, since in the current version tigermen are tamable but act like nonworking carnivorous dwarves once tamed, I was hoping that a future version would allow foreign intelligent races to be assigned labors and other orders once they are incorporated into your fortress's society.  Or at the very least, have the whole "tamable intelligent creatures" issue smoothed out.

But Dwarves LOVE cats. That's all I ever have to deal with in my forts? Zombie elephants? Oh captain, could you remove them? Strange Moods? Shower in jewels. Pet cats? Tantrum spiral when killed.
