Poor FPS? Quite the opposite, actually.
« on: March 08, 2011, 03:18:44 pm »

So, I made and adventurer, and walked into the nearest house. Upon entrance, all of my keystrokes were counted as two. I was trying to figure out why, then I saw my FPS counter...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

How does that even make sense? That's too much!

Seriously, I've never heard of someone asking for tips on how to lower their FPS.

EDIT: Alright, now I literally have over 9000 FPS. How can I reduce it?

Check data\init\init.txt

You may have your fps set to 0... which is uncapped.

Also, nice computer?

Set a longer detection time between keypresses.

[KEY_HOLD_MS:250]
[KEY_REPEAT_MS:150]

The huge FPS number is how many ticks could your computer calculate. The real number is in brackets.

That's what I thought too, actually. In fortress mode, I have FPS capped at 100, and GFPS capped at 50, and it always says [FPS:100(50)].

Uh, no.

DF has two fully separate framerates:
How fast the game plays (FPS: X <x>)
How fast the screen updates (FPS: x <X>)

Anyway, framerate between actions in Adventure Mode is essentially the same as paused framerate, so it's no wonder that it would skyrocket.
It wouldn't shouldn't cause your keystrokes to get repeated, though.

Send some my way....

My FPS is 0(0) a lot of the time....

I could really use some.

(admittedly my fortress start out at 60,000(20) but soon that number crashes)

Hey, that's what I said! The speed of the game is influenced by the amount of calculated ticks.

Framerate in Adventurer mode is largely meaningless, since the game is perpetually in a "paused" state (unless you're dead, in which case it's supposed to start running in real time but it actually doesn't due to a bug).
