If we can pen pets in the new version, how will this affect flyers, such as a giant eagle? Afaik, a zone covers only the level it is located on, and eagles tend to.. you know, fly. Will my dwarfes constantly spam pen orders or "cannot find path" messages, since they can't fly themselves?

I don't know, but birds can't pass through roofs, or do they? ;)

No more so than they already do this for caging requests.

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.

It took me all this time to work out that Yaks can't be sheared.
Is this intentional? That would make me rather sad  :(

Seriously though the amount of grass it takes to keep a yak alive hardly seems worth it when you can buy a couple sheep and have cheese/meat/wool all in one.

In real life Yaks produce wool but it cannot be dyed.  They also apparently produce a lot of milk. I think someone determined that in game Yaks produce more milk tht other critters, but maybe I am mistaken.

Yaks and cows should probably provide more milk than goats or sheep or horses. I'm not all that sure why llamas or pigs are even considered milkable. They produce milk like any other mammal of course, but not most of the year and in amounts that make it economical to harvest. Having pigs turn grass into milk as well as cows or goats is a bit silly. Particularly since pigs aren't really even grazers in RL.  You might as well try to milk a grass-fed bear.
