I'm playing right now with a fortress sized around 44 dwarves. It runs at a good clip on my system, but for some reason, every couple of minutes it freezes, sometimes up to like 20 seconds before it comes out of it. I usually run Windows Media Player while I'm playing, but I tried turning it off, and still got a freeze without it.

There are a few checks that it does periodically, but I haven't heard of a periodic lag like this. Depot easily accessible? Any unusual storage situations or massive (really massive) designated mining/detailing projects?

The game freezes up for a few seconds for me when a large bridge/aqueduct is completed, but should I presume you build a new one every couple of minutes?

Hmm, I'm not sure. I'll have to see whether it's going on because of my bridging projects, or it may be that my depot IS hard to access.

My OS is Windows XP Pro.

I think I've seen this before but I can't say what got rid of it. Try turning off sound maybe?

what antivirus are you running?
my one sometimes lags out my pc if i lose contact with my internet hub.
