There are two ways to use plants and not get seeds. First, by cooking meals in the kitchen, but you can specify not to cook specific plants in the z menu. Second, by using a custom reaction from a mod that uses plants, but doesn't have any seed product.

You can also cook seeds, but I think the OP was more concerned with getting seeds in the first place than disposal of the surplus.  After a year of agriculture, seeds are never a concern, since all of the basic plant-processing reactions yield seeds, and 1 seed can give birth to a plant stack which contains within it more than 1 seed.

I'm glad that there's a limit of 200 seeds per type, otherwise all your stockpiles could get quickly overwhelmed.  A cap of 100 would be better.

Unless something has changed recently, you can designate a single tile custom stockpile that only accepts seeds, and as long as no other stockpile takes seeds the barrel in the seed stockpile can hold an unlimited number of seed bags.

Oh, there's a seed cap?  I never realized this.  I only recently realized there was an animal cap of ~50.

I thought a barrel held 10 seed bags.  Or am I just a fool who used multi-tile seed stockpiles instead of the exploit you describe?

Regardless, a 4-tile seed stockpile has a capacity for about 2000 seeds (50 seeds per bag, 10 bags per barrel, 4 barrels) which is enough to reach the seed-cap for 10 different crops.  I can't imagine ever needing more than 4 tiles of seed stockpile.

Actually, it's 100 seeds per bag, so 1000 seeds/tile.

Wow, even better!  You can reach the seed-cap for 5 crops with only a 1-tile seed stockpile.  And how many dwarven food-crops are there?

Plump Helmets, Pig-Tails, and maybe Dimple Cups if you're going THAT route.  Once you get a GCS then not even pig tails.

About 20 or so including above and below ground.
