Yeah, that game's at least 5 years old.  I remember playing that in my high school programming class.

The end was kind of odd, considering...

After beating the game, though, the option to do it all again seems silly.  It was grindy (No pun intended) and frustrating the first time, thanks.

How the heck could you get to the bottom without bombs?  There's explosions in almost every piece of dirt and rocks everywhere...

Lots of nanobot repair units... But yea, getting all the way down is a bitch without bombs, as you can not fly at a certain point, so you can dig yourself in. I know I nuked the ground there.

Motherload is a pretty good one shot sort of deal, mining wise. Basically you play as the operator of a mining vessel on Mars, digging through layers of rock to get enough money to purchase a larger fuel tank or a stronger hull. It's pretty great.

Huh, didn't see there was a second page for some reason. Well, at least we know that it's broadly enjoyed even without slight bias from the reading the thread. Well, to actually contribute, Miner Disturbance was kind of fun for a while. Very similar to Motherload, but also fun, with methane gases and creepy underground creatures. I imagine the pay to play version is more complete, but if you're looking for another one shot, then this might be worth a try.

Saw the word "Jagex" on Miner Disturbance and immediately turned around and walked away.

Now see, it has water and gas physics.

Not even Dwarf fortress has gas physics.

Yet. Although it does have gas-like substances which do flow around the map. Miasma, dust, and vaporized stone for example.
