Dwarf armour
« on: February 21, 2011, 10:20:18 am »

Can anyone tell me where I can find armour for my dwarf?

I've found lots of large clothing (it's nice that it doesn't say 'large' unless it means 'larger than YOU') but this is a region where I don't have any dead forts. Not that I've ever produced much dwarven armour anyway, the whole military side of Fortress mode is a bit of a mystery to me...

Yeah, I could have found the answer by searching, but I had fifteen seconds before I had to go back to work and hoped someone would like to answer a quick question in the hours I was gone!

In fact, I haven't found the answer with searching - how do I go about finding goblins and dwarves to kill and steal the armour from? And what can I do to minimise the risk of being killed before I get any armour, other than hiring a tonne of peasants?

I can't help you there, I haven't run into goblins since getting DF2010, at least not in adventure mode, mostly kobolds.

Dark Towers and Dwarf Fortresses have been wiped out of existence in the current versions of DF, so you'll almost NEVER see a dwarf in adventure mode, and the only time you'll run into goblins is if you're passing around the area the dark fortress should've been and run into a random patrol.

If you go into the raws and mod dwarves to live in cities like humans, you'll get actual dwarves living in cities that should have shops you can buy dwarf-sized equipment from.

Otherwise, your only hope is to somehow find a dwarf to kill, or abandon a fortress full of equipment.

I recommend this.

There is some chance that you can find a bandit camp with armored, dwarf-sized creatures to kill, or you may find some discarded armor of proper size in a monster lair, but modding dwarves to have cities is a surefire solution.

Oooh, forgot about monster lairs.  You can sometimes find discarded equipment (and body parts) in a night creature's lair, so if you find a night creature that's been killing lots of dwarves, you should find a few pieces of dwarven equipment.
