Floating grass?
« on: February 21, 2011, 06:47:49 am »

Had a quick search for 'floating grass' but didnt get any results. Anyone else have this bug? For example, mining out a square and the grass on the next level above remains (sort of like a floor tile might)

It's that way so your hovercows can graze.

This is a known bug.  It mostly happens with floating mud (look up "spontaneous cave-in" for a very interesting thread).  It seems to be caused by contaminants like mud and grass, and probably blood but never heard of this happening, being similar to floating furniture.  Namely, that it doesn't -always- check for a floor when the floor is removed, so the grass tile thinks there's a floor when really there isn't.

+5 Dwarf Points if you can somehow get an animal to graze off it.

Now if you can get multiple tiles of floating grass in the air, can you literally set the sky on fire?

I just realized two things. 1. For the Win and F___ the World have the same initials. 2. They have the same meaning in Dwarf Fortress.

Ahh cool, no need to bug report then. Off to earn that +5 points, else, work toward setting the sky on fire.

We've already discussed how to use floating mud to create cave-in traps, due to the fact that underground trees will grow on floating mud and instantly cave-in upon maturing.  Now that we've got floating grass, there should be SOME way to weaponize it too!

Did you just mine through the tile, or did you ramp through it? Remember that mining still leaves a floor tile on the Z-level above, and outdoor soil floors can always support grass.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
