Online Radio
« on: February 28, 2011, 05:29:43 pm »

I used to frequent a little shoutcast radio that anyone could connect to and play music, and recently I was toying with the prospect of setting up my own.

Of course, there seems to be no such thing as good free hosting for shoutcast servers, and half the paid-for ones seem terrible too.

So, does anyone know of a good server to use for this?

If I really have to, I'll host one off my own machine.
Also if there's nothing else to discuss this may as well be the public radio station thread.

Good luck finding a free one, it sounds like a fun idea.

Blizzard is managed by dark sorcerers, and probably have enough money to bail-out the federal government.

You can also shoutcast it from your own PC if the audience is small (i.e. no more than 5 or 6 listeners). Used to do that myself.

Yeah, the only free ones seem to be incredibly terrible.
Consider Livestream.

Yeah, it's looking like that might be an option. I might have quite a few too many listeners for it to work well, however.

I have found a couple good hosts for $10/mo.  I might go with that if I find no alternative.
