I love night creatures
« on: February 20, 2011, 11:37:25 am »

I started a new fortress, and its only the second month (Slate) when a nightwing comes by, chases down my carpenter, and kills him by sucking his blood. The Nightwing gained the name Kekimisan.

My expedition leader (Asen) goes out to collect his axe, and on the return trip ends up getting attacked by the nightwing, her left arm is almost gone. But Asen doesn't give in so easily, she hacks its wing preventing it from flying and then continues chopping... Using the dead carpenters axe. Upon recruitment to stop her from running away, she decides axes are for losers and just punches the nightwing, with her good arm.

She then topples the thing over and....

Yeah. She punched it through the skull.

So after only two months of building a fort in an evil desert, JestedPassage already has a hero, and a guy who's death was avenged.

I love this game.

I think you have a one-armed vampire hunter on your hands.

If I were you, I'd make her a marksdwarf to shoot wooden (or metal (or bone)) stakes at things. You only need one hand to weild a crossbow, and if things turn ugly she can use her freakishly strong arm to force her opponents' brains through their nasal cavity.

Yeah, in the future you probably shouldn't strike the earth quite so hard

A nightwing isn't a Night Creature, it's a regular one. Otherwise, cool story.

If we ever get prosthetic limbs just think of the possibilities.

Crossbow arms.

"almost gone" so is she just gonna spend some time in hospital or is it mangled to the point she is one armed from here on out?

Has anyone attempted to use a loyalty cascade to play a hermit fortress?

Groovy.  Give me some Dwarven Sugar, baby.

And when you build your fortress walls from the bones of skeletal elephants, slain my weapons forged from melted goblin plunder, fed on cattle that graze on grass that blinks.  Then, you will know dwarfdom.

Its the second month. There is no hospital, there are no beds either, just some mined out farming plots.

Another thing. I'm considering building a semi-megaproject in honor of the now avenged Sazir (that carpenter guy).

Seeing the method in which he was avenged, it may just be appropriate to build a temple on top of his corpse, a temple in the shape of a fist that punches the heavens.
