Loyalty Tag

Simply put, assigned war animals latch to there owner, so a bed ridden owner takes their team away from the battlefield.
I suggest a tag that makes this so and make the tagless be able to be reassigned.

That is a good suggestion (although phrased in a mildly confusing manner)

I have no idea what you are talking about, but I'm pretty sure it's a good idea

I'm terrible with written expression; [LOYAL] = can not re-adopt, no loyal means reassigning on a whim.

I like the idea, have some changes, and think it can be expanded upon. I think it should only slowly happen, much like a dwarf latching onto a specific weapon, as loyalty requires time. To expand on the idea I'd like to see a dwarf and his loyal war dog work better together than a dwarf and his newly assigned war dog, though, I'm not sure how it would be implemented. A loyal animal should also defend his master and even sometimes defend his dead body.

Good idea is good. Clean and simple good.
This feel strange, we never get suggestions that are just should be.

How about [LOYAL:x:y], the x being a number from 1-100. 100 being instant latch, 1 being very unlikly and timetaking. y being that for the young. A lower number will get over its latch's death faster.

Good idea is good. Clean and simple good.

Because most should be's are.

You know, if toady is going to model ANY sort of procedurally generated behavior, this kinda stuff is going to be ESSENTIAL. Whale, this is a REALLY good idea, especially with army arc coming up. Perhaps there should also be a courage stat, together, those would pretty much equal morale, an essential component to simulating battles.

Thought it was worth bumping this topic with something I found on wikipedia.

When in 1415 Sir Peers Legh was wounded in the Battle of Agincourt, his Mastiff stood over and protected him for many hours through the battle.

This kind of behaviour would be suitable I'd say.
