crash in fortress mode on offering

this seems to be documented as bug "000258 ▨ (doesn't reproduce)."

but for me, it seems to reproduce.  it has happened twice to me on the same fort, probably with the same batch of humans.  I was going to save the game before trading with them this time, but i forgot about it.

the first time it happened, the humans came with mules only and brought a trade representative to pen a trade deal.  the second time was the same batch of humans (this time with wagons) and the same trade representative penning a slightly different trade deal.  both times the offering crashed the game.  both times, the offering was made AFTER regular trading had been done.  both times, the offering was a couple thousand worth in bone and shell crafts.

anyway, I can probably get a good save with it happening, if you like.  if this kind of thing is going to be a moot point after the rebuild (due to sweeping code changes or trade system rewrites), then thats cool too.

It's happened to me too. Usually when I'm trying to get rid of a bunch of crafts (scepters, crowns and idols [I give 'em their own stockpile right next to the depot]). I've been trying to get a save where I can reproduce it for ages, but oddly since I've started saving immediately before making the offering, it hasn't happened.

you're right, it doesnt seem to happen when you save before offering.

i can think of a few things that might be the issue:

1 - theres evil spirits in my computer that taunt me, and the game only crashes at inopportune times when you havent saved for a long while

2 - one of the items in the trade is bugged, and i didnt happen to trade that item or that particular combination of items this time around.  likewise, the caravan brought a slightly different group of things, or the trade agreement with the broker was slightly different.

3 - the bug ACTUALLY IS related to the time between saves, and has something to do with large quantities of unwritten data.

in any event, the offset in the error was the same on both previous crashes:  Faulting application dwarfort.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module dwarfort.exe, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x002403e8.

sadly, i didnt keep any of the extended memory dump from the crash.

I couldn't get it to happen, but I'll reopen it and try again later.  I won't be able to use a save until after I'm done, since I don't want to copy the old code on my computer.  I should be done sometime...

It may be caused by a memory leak elsewhere thats on;y slightly related.  Just a thought.  It would explain all of my vanishing seeds.

Step 1: Farmer picks up a seed at the stockpile.
Step 2: Seed diappears.
Step 3: Farmer realizes his hands are empty and cancels plant job.
Step 4: Repeat step 1.

I've had a farmer completely run me out of several types of seeds this way.  No clue where they end up.  The were taking right out of a barrel in a food stockpile so they shouldn't be rotting.  They just vanish, and really, the farmer never had the seed moved into his inventory period.  This kinda looks to me like a memory leak.  Perhaps there are others, and they are all contributing to these crashes.

Does that one have anything to do with the seeds disappearing in rain outdoors bug?
