How long do items burn?
« on: February 28, 2011, 01:01:03 am »

I have two cozy little piles of burning goblin junk in my fortress, and I've forbade my dwarfs from touching the items in question, so I think the situation is stable.  Except for that they keep smoking up the place and I am a little worried.  I don't want anymore of my dwarfs to catch on fire, so will I have to get creative to rid my fortress of the annoyance?

I am running about a year or two old version of the game.

Thanks!

Cloth whiffs up pretty fast, wood a bit longer, lignite for about a year.  Depends on the density of the object and the size.  Goblin tunics and loincloths and such?  Probably not long, unless you messed something up, not sure what temperature off does for already-burning objects...

For future reference, you can wall it off, and make it accessable via a hatch.  The hatch will keep smoke in, so your fort stays clean.
