Play other than dwarves?

I added [CIV_CONTROLLABLE] to elves and humans in the raws, but when I boot up a new game I can't play them. What's going on?

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

On the embark site selection screen keep hitting tab until you get a list of civs and, if I remember correctly, you can change your starting civ using the + and - keys. They will have odd names but you should be able to tell what civ belongs to what race. I do warn you though that the other civs are missing certain professions which will likely make things difficult.

Got it. Question: are humans and elves alcohol-dependent? And can they go into strange moods?

Also, what's the first caravan to arrive? Is it the dwarven caravan or the civ caravan?

Dwarves are alcohol dependent only because of a special alcohol dependency tag that the other races lack. Strange moods are toggled by an init option for all player races. The first caravan to come is usually the autumn one, although I've had forts where they didn't arrive till spring.
