No path to food - dwarf lays claim to most of food stock
« on: March 14, 2007, 04:41:00 am »

I noticed a rather alarming drop in the food stockpiles on the kitchen screen, so I checked them manually. It turns out my carpenter owns most of my edible food. He has 175 possessions, so he must own over 160 units of food, since clothes are his only other possession. The food is in barrels in stacks of one. The economy has not started yet.

The cause for the bug is that I locked down the river crossing during the seasonal flood, and the carpenter wasn't able to trace a path to the food, so he was assigned another thing to eat, apparently 164 times in succession.  I checked the log, and the carpenter has "cancels Eat: Item inaccessible" message with "x164" after it.

Yeah, I know this is reported, but it's on a long bug list.  Toady is probably looking at it, if not now, soon.  In the mean time, you can get your food back by crushing him with a bridge, or drowning him  ;)

I had the same thing happen when a tantruming dwarf destroyed a bridge. Suddenly the other dwarf that was on the other side of the bridge started claiming EVERYTHING.

He wound up with 964 possessions, all my prepared food and edible plants intended for brewing.

The shitty thing was, he was my legendary weaponsmith. I wound up sending him to be a farmer and "accidentally" flipping the lever to prevent mass starvation. I gave his artifact steel crossbow to one of my marksdwarves, but it was a real shame to lose him.
