Friendly goblins partying in the dining room...
« on: February 03, 2008, 09:12:00 am »

I think this is a new one e.e

I had played as an adventurer who got himself killed in a goblin fortress, and decided to build a fort there.

Shortly after embarking, I noticed something odd (besides the way the goblins had flooded the lower levels of their fort by digging into a brook, of course).  Goblins were beginning to gather around my wagon.

Thankfully, they didn't attack my dwarves, or even distract them from their work, although they showed up as hostile on the units list.  But more goblins began to show up...

Acting on a hunch, I built a dining room and set it as a meeting hall.  Sure enough, the goblins began began to wander over there one by one.  At the present moment, I now have about 20 goblins, along with 10 or so goblin children loitering in the dining room.  Given that one of the goblins is a legendary crossbowman, I'm a bit unsettled... XD

Me too, this looks hilarious.

And why the uneasy feeling? free labor!

Not free labor - they just stand there....

Should be readily reproducible though - this isn't the first time I've had problems with fortresses on previously visited goblin fortresses - the last time I reclaimed a fortress on a goblin fort site (the first one was abandoned when all the dwarves went to the brook on the far side of the map to get a drink, and couldn't get back because of a scary goblin lookout on a cliff...), I found that all the goblins had mysteriously vanished (but the dwarves were still there e.e).

Well, suppose that LEGENDARY CROSSBOW goblin gets unhappy / starves itself and then goes berserk?

Hmm...  I wonder what would happen is you stuck a cgae trap in there...

Also, do they drink or eat anything of yours?  Goblins are a bit picky about their food, it has to be meat.  Be cool to just have a group of goblin squatters wandering around your fort.

It's a poorly disguised terrorist sleeper cell.  You should probably take them in for "questioning"

They are apperantly a goblin caravan trading their iron items for 7/7 units of water.

They possibly need ventilation. Say, 10 upright spikes connected to a lever on repeat. Just reassign the meeting area to encourage them.

Designate a meeting area next to the trade depot, then see how the traders react.
