Yup... I killed the goblin leader (squashed him with a bridge) and he shows up as deceased in the character screen of my fortress but he is still the leader of the goblins.

I do not know if it takes a little while for it to get updated or for the gobs to choose a new leader or if this is a bug

See if he shows up with the next siege again.

My dogs teared apart a goblin that was named goblin ruler during the third and the greatest siege on me so far. The year after that I was sieged by goblins again but that time - by a much lesser force. I guess that goblins are now sustaining shortage in numbers but they still have at least 1 elite warrior. It is strange indeed that they still call that material for totem and arrows   their ruler.

It's just not done yet.  I haven't done the Life Cycles Arc or anything related to succession.  The leader is dead though, and shouldn't show up again.
