Elves need soap!!
« on: February 14, 2011, 10:41:18 am »

I don't understand why elves can't have soap. Sure they won't harm wilderness animal. However they will cannibalize each other and also dine on other senteint beings. So why can't they use dwarf and elf fat to make the lay for there soap!?

Vegetable oil is a few versions away, so presumably there'll be some way of making vegetarian-friendly soap from that.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

I think the problem is lye: lye comes from ash (trees). If other sources/reactions will be implemented, maybe soap will be elf-friendly... (btw,  pearlash and other salts could be also found in small clusters along cavern walls or in sedimentary layers, just like borax (another interesting mineral, and one that maybe is going to be used to make glazes for pottery)

We need a scavenge designation, possibly when non-destructive plant gathering is implemented.
Scavenging on a tree will return a small amount of Dead Wood, bundles of sticks and twigs shed naturally by trees due to weather damage, animal damage, or disease. Dead Wood bundles are only good for making ash and charcoal, and elves will stop bitching about the precious trees.
On drift wood Scavenging has a chance of giving either Dead Wood or a normal wood log.
Scavenging on a boulder on the surface will give you a stone for your troubles (giving you a potential source of stone in case of aquifer).

We will have vege oil and soap in the next release, which is about 4 days away.
Elves will probably not make soap though, as they don't use wood burners, but I might be wrong.

Iv seen people who haven't had a redheaded person in their family for quite a while, and then out of nowhere two out of three of their children have red hair.
What color was the mailman's hair?
