Pretty sure rail games are the next gen train sets for the train weridos, but for all I know they do both, but seems like trains are an expensive hobby in either case.

Train sets have always seemed creepy to me for some reason, strange modeling hobby imo.

I think model trains are creepy because you kind of sort of can't help but imagine all the tiny people on them, doomed to some sort of hellish circular purgatory.

I looked at railworks, figuring it was some sort of Railroad Tycoon type game and was completely confused by the premise. Then I realized you drive the train. Then I realized how damn boring that would be. This didn’t bother me very much (to each their own, we all win when game makers come up with crazy ideas) but then DLC started coming out and I was mystified.

Since we are on the subject of “boggle games”, have you guys seen Ship Simulator Extremes (http://store.steampowered.com/app/48800 )? Add the word EXTREME to your game name does NOTHING! And how about Demolition Company (http://store.steampowered.com/app/65100/?snr=1_200_200_258_103_1 ) ?

As a final aside, and not to derail the topic too much, but can you imagine this same setup, but with Warhammer? Think of it, DLC could be paint, guys, terrain…. The game could play EXACTLY like the table top, it just wouldn’t take 1 hour for 4 turns. You could play with your buddies anywhere… it would be CRAZY!

Oi! How dare you comrades make fun of ma train games!

Well, I haven't tried railworks but I'll check it out once I have the time. I did enjoy the railroad tycoon series and Sid Meier's Trains!, though it annoyed the hell of any spectator who happened to be in the same room :D

And how about Demolition Company (http://store.steampowered.com/app/65100/?snr=1_200_200_258_103_1 ) ?

That one is actually pretty reasonable.  You're given some explosives/other tools and told to blow up some structure, occasionally with restrictions like "it can't fall on the railway" and your set loose.

The only "failings" of the game are:
1) you're immune to damage
2) all of the buildings break apart into perfectly square sections.
