[38c] Elite military general elected mayor?
« on: April 05, 2008, 01:35:00 pm »

My newest elected mayor is an elite marksdwarf in my army (not in the Royal Guard/also not in the Fortress Guard).

I'm unsure if this is a bug, but I'd assume that when elected, they should give up all ties to the military. Since my mayor is Elite, I'm unable to manually toggle their military status.

Or, maybe ensure they can still perform the mayor's functions while activated...

Not a bug. Dwarves are elected purely on popularity.

This part is not, but they don't do mayor jobs such as meetings when in military I believe.

In my forts members of the military ALWAYS get elected mayor becouse they spend so much time in the meeting area and are usually friends with every other dwarf in the fort.

Dwarves ought to enact the self denying act.

Now to see if anyone has any clue what I just said.

Military dwarves from Elite onwards wonīt do any civilian work.
But well, I never saw my mayor doing any work, no matter wether he was military or civilian, so I assume thatīs O.K.
TMayors seem to be just there to demand things from your darves and to get the benefit of their own office, sleeping and dining room   :D

The problem is that when a dwarf is elite, you can't change their job status...  which means phappyman can't remove their new mayor from the military, leaving him without an effective mayor.  Mayor-elites either need to leave the military automatically, give the player the ability to remove them, or be ineligible for mayor.

My champion mayors tend to do their mayoral jobs still.

They probably shouldn't be elected.  The automatic drop would be a disaster during a fight, though funny, and allowing them to be elected and stuck in the military or not at the player's discretion isn't really in the spirit of their indepedence.

A champion as a mayor makes a lot of sense though.  He'd just have to get a bit mayorly about having meetings rather than spending all his time sparring.

Rope Strapjingles, elven Diplomat: I see you've carved out a nice home for yourselves.

Cerol Godenmelbil, Elite Marksdwarf Mayor: Yeh, What of it?

Rope Strapjingles, elven Diplomat: We can part with, at most, 100 trees.

Cerol Godenmelbil, Elite Marksdwarf Mayor: Oh yeh? I got one tree I can part with. *THUNK*

Diplomacy, who needs diplomacy when you have a crossbow? Military heroes make the best Mayors.
