suggestion to increase immersion

This idea seems relatively simple to implement, and would make the world feel much more alive.
What if goblin armies could pass through the fortress map, and assuming they did not encounter any dwarfs, continue on their journey?

Planned pretty much for the army arc I suppose. Or well, movement of armies across the world and possibly intersecting past your fortress is, so I'd suppose goblins heading to siege some other settlement might pass your fort and decide to wreak havoc there instead if they find some dwarves out and about. Friendly armies, travellers, mercenaries etc etc are also planned to visit your fort when we get taverns in, which should come the next development cycle after this ^^

i was referring more to something to give the appearance of armies moving around before they actually do.

Toady's never been one to go for the quick fix when the hard way is in reach. He's not likely to do and Army Arc light that would be replaced by Army Arc proper.

Yeah, it would be a bit of a waste spending a few days/a week on a purely cosmetic change only to completely scrap it a few months/year later to redo it properly :P

Sounds like a consequence of a more general suggestion for pathing to depend on senses, with creatures and objects able to "hide" by simply being out of range, or obstructed.  That would be good.

Listen up: making a thing a ‼thing‼ doesn't make it more awesome or extreme.  It simply indicates the thing is on fire.  Get it right or look like a silly poser.

It's useful to keep a ‼torch‼ handy.

Well again this is planned, Toady has been working on stealth which includes the visual arcs recently. The question is whether it will be Toady or his great grandson who eventually finalizes that stuff...............

It'll be done when it's done, no need to rush it. Would the works of Tolkien have been as epic if he hadn't spent well near 60 years perfecting them? ^^
