"Ammo Dump"
« on: April 05, 2008, 04:17:00 am »

Also known as "How to effectively disarm a ranged guard".

Step one:  Find sleeping guard and walk up to him/her.

Step two:  Grab sleeping guard's quiver.

Step three:  Using the [d]rop menu, remove all bolts from the sleeping guard's quiver.

Step four:  Release quiver, and pick up bolts which are now on the ground.

Step five:  Throw bolts at sleeping guard, thus disarming him/her.

Seems to me that'd only work if the bolts had wide enough heads to cut through the entire shoulder...*ducks*

Are you trying to make a point?  This is DF we're talking about here.

DF bolts are wide enough to remove a person's throat. No, not just pierce it, but remove it.

They're large enough to remove the throat, both eyes, AND pierce a lung or two - All at the same time.

So if a guard is asleep, you can steal the bolts out of his open-topped quiver - that's not exactly unrealistic.

Yeah, I don't see the bug.  So you can grab a sleeping guy's quiver and pull things out of it?  That's cool.

For some reason I read this as, "So you can grab a sleeping guy's liver and pull things out of it? That's cool." Something is terribly wrong with me.

That's a feature, not a bug.   :D

Well, unlike removing the quiver, there's no chance for the guard to wake up.  You can safely disarm one of the most dangerous enemies in the game in a few key-clicks.

It just seemed to me that the way of doing it (wherein after you grab the quiver, the bolts are considered to be in your inventory, allowing you to drop them) denoted a bug of sorts.  And, you don't need a free hand to do it.

I suppose scraping bolts out of a quiver with a halberd is possible, but it's most likely not going to leave the guard sleeping peacefully.

Yeah, I don't see what's wrong here.  There's a story thread where a guy removed a guard's eyes while he was sleeping (and didn't seem to notice or care).

Well, I did that once.  You're not referring to Death and Glory!, are you?

Actually...  I think the guard woke up for that.  But as soon as I was out of his visual range (one tile), he went back to sleep.

I'll leave a note with Bug 279 so I make sure to handle this consistently, however that will be.
