Tried a quick search in regards to this but had no luck, so here it is.
If an unnamed civilization has it's armed members decimated will the survivors attempt to pick up the weapons and carry on the fight?
I'm curious since I was "blessed" with a cave swallowman civilization. Usual 8 or so armed members (7 spearmen and one blowgunner). Not a big deal so I ignored them and left them their little spot of cavern on the other side of the map.
The first year passed and they bred. First female popped out a baby. Then the other 3 joined in but they had to have more gusto about it, so it was triplets and twins all the way. After 4 years they'd outnumbered my dwarves and killed off two forgotten beasts on their cavern level.
So I dug a ramp to the second level where I had 4 more forgotten beasts wandering around lonely and released them on the cave swallowmen.
The armed swallowmen have now been slaughtered along with most of the miscellaneous adults from the hordes of progeny which obviously were growing at a geometric rate. I've got about 50 or so child corpses in the unit list and after taking a peek with reveal there's at least another 80 to go and about 30 adults. What I'm wondering is, will any of the unarmed surviving adults pick up the weapons and attempt to carry on the fight, or will they only defend themselves with fists when they're caught and cornered?
Nevermind, that's been answered....there's now just one lone swallowman child flapping around when I decided to take a peek. Fortunately, his parents are no longer around to witness his impending demise...
The weapons were left where they fell, though at least the original warriors banged up the colossus of some gem type a bit. At least I got some of my FPS back.
Part of me feels slightly bad, after all, scads of children horribly slaughtered, but on the other hand, when I get around to cleanup down there, I'm sure I can find a use for the bones.
