[38c] Drowning ... but not standing in water.
« on: April 04, 2008, 04:29:00 pm »

Miner was in a 'dry' bit of river bed, mining some damp rock that was surrounded (other than the 'dry' river bed) by 7/7 water or damp rock.

Miner drowns.  He is not even wet!

Here's what it looks like from above ('X' is just loam, 'D' is the door for access - and the water around the '.' is from the level below):

X77X
X77X
X%%X
X%%D
7..S
7777

The two '.' are where the pumps (%) are sucking the water out faster than it can go in.

Where the miner drowned is, is on the river bed where the '.'s are ('T' is the loam he is tunneling into, the '.' is the river bed, the 'S' is a staircase that is under 7 of water but is dry on the level above - the 'M' is my dead miner):

XXXX
XXXX
XXXX
TXXX
7M.S
7777

What gives?  No water on him at all.

CODE tags are useful (though images are easier to read).

Also, are you sure that's where he died, and not just where the water pushed his corpse to?  Normally, dwarves won't enter high water, but with a setup like that, I could see him getting confused and stepping onto the square to his left when it was at 3/7.

(Thanks for the code tags, stupid me.)

Well I was watching him pretty closely.  I actually saw him die - but I don't know if maybe he had stepped into a wet tile previously and turned on 'drowning', if you will.
