Berserk dwarves not perceived as a threat?
« on: August 23, 2006, 10:55:00 am »

I just had a craftsdwarf go berserk because I couldn't supply him with an unspecified metal (he had no preferences listed). Expecting this, I stationed a squad of soldiers next to his workshop, so he promptly attacked a wrestler... while the others stood there and did nothing. Eventually the wrestler knocked the berserk dwarf into unconsciousness, then calmly walked away to rest! When the berserker woke back up he started attacking an already-lame war dog while the soldiers watched. I tried turning them both on duty or standing down, but either way they made no move to do anything about the berserker.

Strangely bezerk dwarves count as wild animals, you need to the squad to "harrass dangerous wild animals" for them to do anything other than self defense. I meant to mention this a while ago but forgot all about it.

Whoa, thanks for the information Bloody, I was wondering why my soldiers would let the sheriff just rip eight citizens apart in front of them and not do a thing.  :)

I thought that might be the case, so I set them all to harass animals but it didn't seem to make any difference.

Berserk dwarves should be grouped completely separately, like the undead, and attacked/fled from on sight.  Anything else is a bug.  I don't see any immediate errors looking over it, so if anybody has a save with the situation clearly arranged that would help (a soldier ignoring somebody who is berserk).

I've got this exact same situation coming up soon, I will test out if I can duplicate what happened.

Got a craftsmansdwarf starting to get impatient because I cannot provide him with a certain type of Ore, I will station two axesoldiers next to him  and see what happens.

later this evening I mean =p now back to work.

btw this game is coded by Satan, way too much fun.

This berserk issue should be solved in the release I just put up.  nex had a miner that was berserk that many marksdwarves were ignoring.  Now when I load that up, the miner is dropped in less than a second.
