Continue after winning?
« on: January 23, 2011, 03:25:52 am »

Is continueing after you win possible in LCS? I've won a few times but unless I'm stupid I can't continue the game after that. If it isn't in the game would it be possible to include it? Like letting society backslide into it's conservative ways, or just playing around more. I'm mostly asking about it since I've never been able to pass the Liberal Amendment becouse I win the game before it gets passes.

Why, 'tis Liberal Crime Squad, the game linked on the Bay12Games front page immediately below Dwarf Fortress. Much less popular but still interesting to many, with ongoing open-source development and new releases, including one as recently as a couple hours ago.

Regarding the OP, it's not currently possible to continue after winning, sorry.

Pass the liberal amendment? Let the country backslide and continue to use this LCS to fix the country again?

You can't once the country becomes liberal EVERYONE is a Liberal.

I guess if you could continue after the game was over, you would have to deal with other countries.

Actually, that's a minor interesting point: could we have a New Game + dealie where we carry over all the members of the Liberal Crime Squad and potentially the money and equipment and reset everything else?

If they end up lynched because they didn't post, oh well. Too bad for them. Maybe they should've tried posting.

The problem is how the game handles victory by disbanding. So a Newgame+ would have to track who was in your group prior to disbanding.

And not all of them would come back or they would die of old age.   In a futuristic world where liberalism is lost yet again.

I don't know of what value the game would be in continuing to play after the country achieved Elite Liberal Status, thus rending the Liberal Crime Squad obsolete (or an outright gang of criminals if they continue to use firearms and violence). In my experiences, the Liberal Amendments have only appeared as the population's response to Conservative control; in Nightmare Mode, on which I almost always play, the government can quickly fall under your sway within a short amount of time if you manage to achieve overwhelming public support; they'll overthrow the Conservative hold on both Congress and the Supreme Court.

If you'd like to see the country backslide, though, then you could wait around for a while. Don't do so much as to achieve victory; in fact, if you'd like, you can quickly reverse public opinion by going on rampages and alienating the masses. Once you get that avalanche rolling, you can bask in the glow of holding down the "W" key until America, once again, teeters on the brink of destruction.

I believe there are conditions on the Elite Liberal Amendments that prevent them from triggering if the government is already leaning far enough to the left. They really are, as Grimith says, reactions to the government not changing fast enough. So, to see them, try to transform public opinion as quickly as possible. Nightmare mode will probably help, but it shouldn't be necessary if you swing public opinion hard enough.

Perhaps some form of sandbox mode is the answer?
