problem in reclaim mode
« on: August 22, 2006, 07:58:00 pm »

It seems that whatever is left in a coffer when the fortress ends seems to render it unable to be used by the next batch of dwarves, even when it has been reclaimed and is now sitting in a furniture stockpile. They simply o not appear in a menu to be placed.

Ah, so like a coffer that was in somebody's room?  I think after you lose in fortress mode it converts them into containers, and perhaps when you go back in reclaim mode the reclaim button doesn't see the inside.  Is the same true of barrels or seed bags?

the barrells and seed bags seem to be doing fine, but they don't get placed anywhere by the player in the first place. It's just that i want to get some of my metal chests hauled back to my bedrooms before the Baron/Governor reapears. Not to mention getting at all the coins that are sitting inside them.

On the coins, does it retain some kind of death ownership if you open up their details screens?

no. And there's a bunch of crafts and stuff in those things too, also with no owner.

I notice that my dwarves seem to ignore things that were made in the shops. I hav a mechanic's cluttered with mechanisms, and they don't seem to count for anything. Nor do they seem to want to use the old mason's shop there.

Also, my reclaimers don't seem to want to clean up the refuse at all, making miasma a real problem.

uss, will they take the coins out if you make a coin pile?  apparently they won't use anything for a building if it isn't empty, except for a cage.  I'll have to think about the reasons for that restriction.

c of e, is this after you claim them with the new designation in the [d] menu?

i've had the coin pile sitting around for a couple of years now. They've gathered the coins  that the previous occupants insisted on scatterring around the floor, but refuse to touch anything inside the coffers.

hrm, I imagine it doesn't handle coins in containers come to think of it, since the storage routine won't check itself on such things (like food in backpacks).  I'll have to put together some kind of fix for it, even if it's just to have coffers in dwarf mode spit out their contents every so often.  a deeper check for stored items might cause a lag on larger fortresses, but I can think about it.

something like this seems to be happening to me

but it is with almost everything -

my dwarves are all just standing around

I sent them in to get ambushed or whatever then I got them to moving the dead bodies to a new refuse pile that I made

they moved a couple of bodies from the outside and thats about it

they will not go to the old butchery and do the tasks assigned. even if they only have butchery job enabled

so I decided to demolish it and put another one, but they will not go anywhere near it.

in the old fort, I had a tannery queued up to build but never got around to it. So when I started adding all the jobs to all the dwarves to see if they would do anything, they went and built this.

-they wont work in the old carpenter shop, bowyers, masons or anything it seems.

they would mine, hunt, fish, but that seems about it.

I moved some of the stuff from its old, undesignated pile to a new pile (stones for example) and tried making something at the masons shop but nothing happened.

-Some notes - On my abandoned fort, I abandoned it right when the first traders arrived, so when I reclaimed the fort, I saw all the goods they were trading in the trade depot with a yellow [t] next to it when I used the 't' to look at its contents.

maybe this affected the itemcount or something?

EDIT:I have the save file if that will help

I did not notice the reclaim feature at all. Or at least, didn't connect it with it's function. Thanks for the pointer, Toady!
