We're gonna talk about satchels next podcast, and how each dwarf will have a satchel with either their name embroidered on it or an inlaid gemstone or woodcut what illustrates their personality.  Satchels won't be used to hold anything.

(This thread is making me terribly nostalgic. People talking abaut the time when I stil played the game or read the uppermore boards as a gloden age past... wich it was, obviusly. :'( )

If you can buy a property, then all you need is the ability to either dig or construct walls, and "fortress" isn't far off. 

With digging and mechanisms, your adventurer can build his own magma moat and magma fountains, just like Fortress Mode, but more geared towards making it all about you, and not some silly notion about "community" or some nonsense.

If we get some sort of ability to do really cool things with animals, we can go for making our adventurers retire to the profession of warbear and warelephant breeder on his island home in a personal magma lake.

Long-termer, we can even become nobles, and own huge tracts of land, have peasants do your menial farmwork and warelephant offal cleaning duties.  We could even try to annex some of the peasants of the opposite gender's homes into our own fortress, and make it into a functional "harem", if that floats your boat.  Bonus if you can get slaves/serfs of every possible sentient race.

You know, I loved Oblivion for the absurd number of random things you could mod in more than the game itself.  If we get this far in DF, we can fulfill all our dreams of wealth and horrid abuse of power and personal overindulgence... so long as we don't want to overindulge in graphics.

This thread has brought me to ecstasy with awesome.

But remember: when all of the arcs and goals on the dev_single page have been implemented, we will all die, because the laws of the universe state that we won't be able to exist in a world containing a game that awesome and play it.

Honestly, I'm just waiting for the "RANDOMIZATION AND RAWS ARC". Then I can die happy. NW_Kohaku's suggestion about experimental creature breeding might be entirely possible at that point.

Of course, what people actually do mod into Oblivion is mostly naked elves and sex spells.

I wouldn't say "mostly"... Mostly, I seemed to find pallete swaps of existing clothing that had extreme stats, and people playing around trying to make personal homes or dungeons of quality levels underlining Sturgeon's Law.

The sex spells were just really popular for obvious reasons.

They had plenty of funny stuff, too, like the one where they made a pink unicorn with rainbows on it that looked like a My Little Pony, and tried to make it fart butterflies, while the character riding it was a demon wearing armor like Lord Sauron.

Anyway, I liked some of the better housing mods, like the one where it was an alternate dimension consisting of a small set of ruins levitating in an empty cloudy sky, and I made some custom companions, and dressed one up as a witch, and had another as a demoness in red platemail, while I went with the blue battlemage armor set and wore glasses and used a book as a weapon.  (Everyone was a mage/rogue, basically, it kept them from running in front of me to cause friendly fire, plus I gave them summon spells to be cannon fodder.)

Then I went around the world looking for more Bog Beacon Asco Cap because I found things like alchemy and playing Pretty Princess Dressup and trying to rearrange the silverware on my table or the books in my bookshelf more entertaining than the game itself. :P

Oh, and they did things like Crafty Bits, too.  And damage locations and such...  OBSE had alot of cool things, although it did bring in the sex stuff, too.

(And there were all the Japanese mods that had Touhou characters in it, too...)
