I had a hunter die right next to my chasm (Giant Bat) and my dwarves kept trying to reclaim all his stuff, but there are Troglodytes on a ledge in the chasm about 6-10 levels below that spot, and when they hit the edge of the chasm they apparently see them and run off.

The trogs have no way to reach my dwarves, and no ranged attacks I can see so far.

The same thing happens when there were ratmen standing on the cliff above my fort's entrance. The ratman are 3 levels higher, while they could jump down, they don't.  They look like they're trying to get to my dwarves but are blocked by the cliffs, they could just as easily go around, but they still have a wall blocking them.  Since the dwarves are protected by a wall and the ratmen can't get them, they are perfectly safe.  What we need is a way to make the dwarves realize that after a few in game days or so.

Goblins in a goblin fort are scaring my dwarves.  I guess the dwarves can see them through the fortifications.  Frustrating, though.

A Dwarves ignore dangerous animals order would be nice. Turn it on temporarily to get your dwarves to function in such scenarios, just be sure to remember to turn it off ;]

Yeah my dwarves were afraid of a goblin child that was perched on a cliff four-stories about my Trade Depot. My dwarves and the caravan guards would go to the base of the cliff and yell up at the child, but try as they might they could not get him to jump. My Broker then refused to trade with all this commotion going on, and so we almost didn't get our much needed wood for the winter. But fortunately a quick-thinking miner dug a vertical shaft so that we could access the cliff and put the child down. Once the infant was reduce to a pile of blood and smashed toys commerce could resume.
