Alright, where... Oh! Here it is. OH MY GOD MY EYES!!! DEATH! I SEEK MERCIFUL DEATH! (Tears own head off.)

Excerpt from Human Police Report:

(GamerKnight committed suicide after inadverntantly wandering into the 'Dwarven Striptease Class'. Fifteen human officers of the law also committed suicide while trying to retrieve the body. We eventually had to send in Baldur, the bronze colossus. Baldur just wasn't the same after that incident, though. twwolfe was wanted in connection to his suicide, but was found later, killed by a magma trap on his way to the 'Insane Weaponry Ideas Seminar'.)

We should really be glad that windmills are made with wooden and not metal blades.

Practice windmills (wood)
Anti-giant eagle windmill (steel)
FB repellant (blue)

Hehe.

Anyways, it may just be coincidence, but I'm looking at it right now and there are some dead dogs, dead cats, a dead elf and a dead human sort of clustered around the wind farm.  And some of the blades (not next to each other mind you) are spattered with blood.  And I can be sure it wasn't invaders or anything because I turned them off like 15 dwarf years ago...

Just did some testing by making a windmill-infested entrance corridor.  Couldn't get anyone injured by a mill.  But I only have 20-power wind on this map - do you have 40-power?

In a fat-fingered moment while setting up another military squad I accidentally created a captain of the guard rather than a militia captain.  His squad of near-legendary hammerdwarves equipped with high quality silver hammers then took it upon themselves to dispense justice to all the mandate breakers in the fortress.  It was quite messy.

I do corners myself.  Mechanism in the center, windmills on the 4 corners around it, and windmill on top of that.

does this work to connect them?

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

I've always been paranoid about other things damaging my windmills and ruining the project it was built for, so I do a simple stone wall surrounding them.  I've even put a floor over top to stop anything from flying down into the channel/hole/stairs.
this game confuses me more and more every day.

If windmills are causing damage, then they will generate combat reports. Whenever you notice dead people around the windmills, check your reports. If you're lucky, you'll be early enough to get a report of what kill the dwarf/merchant/cat/etc..

I wonder what would happen if you drop some creature on a windmill from above.

I do corners myself.  Mechanism in the center, windmills on the 4 corners around it, and windmill on top of that.

does this work to connect them?

Code: [Select]
Z = 0
+++++
+W+W+
++*++
+W+W+
+++++

z = 1
+++++
+MMM+
+MMM+
+MMM+
+++++

This makes it such that each windmill is sitting atop stilts, and has a 5x5 area for walking around if needed, and the mechanism, the * on the ground there, can be then linked to a horizontal axis in any direction.  My design is NOT space-friendly, unlike other 22 high windmill stacks I've seen.
