Still having some FPS issues
« on: November 06, 2007, 01:09:00 pm »

The new version is great and I'm really enjoying it but I'm still having some big FPS issues. I downloaded and installed a fresh copy of 33a, generated a new map, and picked a starting site by a river, and from the start FPS on that map was around 20-25, getting lower as I built more. Figuring it due to the calculations from the large body of surface water and all the carp and eel units in it I picked a new site in the desert without any of that, where I had heard other people got better FPS in the past. It started at 80 but gradually dropped as I played more, with it hovering at 30ish now a few years in with about 50 dwarves.

My desktop is a few years old, with 2 ghz amd 2600+ and a gig of ram. I made the starting area smaller than the default and edited the init file to see if that would help, but even with a smaller map and weather and heat off and G_FPS_CAP:15 lowered the FPS keeps dropping and river/lava maps seem out of the question.

Anyone else having similar experiences? Any suggestions, and is FPS something that will continue to be adressed in new versions?

My FPS is about 4(33a)

I'm not even kidding.

However, I'm beginning to think the FPS counter lies to me because it was at zero for a while and I was watching everything continue on its merry way at roughly the same pace as normal.

I used to get around 15-20 pre-32a.

It could be because some is handed to the Graphics card and it's getting royally bogged down in your case and mine. I've only got a Radeon Xpress 1100 in this system. (I long for my gaming system some 3500 miles away.) Takes about an hour for me to get through a month. Give or take.
