Getting a Good Manager
« on: January 25, 2011, 12:15:55 pm »

At present, I'm thinking about training a manager. Because the population will grow, I'm going to need a manager who can validate work orders fast. So, my idea is to have him validate orders to extract 1 cotton candy- I have none at the moment- and then cancel them. This will train him.

Will this work?

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

I've never had an issue with the speed of orders, only with my manager getting distracted.  With hauling and other time wasters off, just business as usual and it'll be fine.  I spend most of my down time waiting for my manager to stop hauling that one bit of wood from ALL the way over there to ALL the way over here.

probably, but it seems like a waste of your time.  Just fill the screen with batches of 'make 30 rock blocks.'

Just order everything from the manager screen he'll be a legendary organizer pretty fast. The real problem is only when he goes on break or to sleep, so pick a dwarf who is very active and slow to tire.

Yeah,I use the manager screen a lot, and the most I have to wait for the manager to do is finish up whatever else he is doing and head to the office. Though I also use the same dwarf for my broker and am oft annoyed when I want to trade and that happens to be when he is managing work orders.
