Oh I will I'm running into the first problem already tho. I did build a nice obsidian casing around most of the ore but some tiles refrain from becoming stone and will instead eat pretty much all water i pour into it. Magma appears to be destroyed in the process and a lot of mist is generated. These are magma flow tiles, are they impossible to destroy?

I believe that it is impossible to get rid of "magma flow" tiles, but I've honestly never tried.  Can you construct floors over them?

Yeah i can construct over them, but it won't help. I'm also pretty sure i found out why i can't get rid of them. I misjudged the amount of z-levels still left until the smr. I only got like 3 levels to work with and the level 2 levels below my current obsidian already has a few tiles of smr (with the magma flow tiles i can't get rid of right above). So i guess I'm out of luck. I could maybe get a few chunks of ore more if i go to the next level but it doesn't seem worth the hassle. At least i know now, that anything that touches smr vertically or horizontally is a dead end.

update:
Damn i got 20 pieces out of it, now I'm tempted to try and get more.

Since magma has no natural pressure, and will not flow up a U-bend, I think you should probably be able to expand your obsidian encasement so that you'll have more space to work with.  This seems like an interesting project to try.

I have done this through 7 levels of magma sea.  Unfortunately the bottommost layer of magma, with the SMR below it, will never obsidianize, so that layer will not be able to be completely mined out.

Just try it! Its not like you die IRL if Urist McMiner falls into magma.

could the bottom layer be pumped out long enough for construction to be put in place?

Can you crash a cave-in onto the SMR level? (this will push the magma there upward, so be careful)

Yes, but the SMR will eat it.

I doubt it, as magma flow tiles above smr spawn new magma continuously. Even if the spawnrate is low there's still magma in adjacent tiles.
