Author Topic: What are the specific in-game effects of various position/RESPONSIBILITY tokens?  (Read 1550 times)

I have a few questions about some of the POSITION ("nobility") tokens (the specialized subclass of ENTITY tokens that designate the specifics of the various noble positions and which are complex enough to have their own page on the wiki), particularly the various arguments for the [RESPONSIBILITY:] token (in addition to some minor ancillary questions regarding position names, etc).

1.) First and foremost, several of the of the arguments for the RESPONSIBILITY token are left more-or-less unexplained in the wiki article, and I was wondering if anybody knows the actual in-game effects of those tokens/arguments when placed in a custom position.

Specifically, does anybody know the specific effects of the following responsibilities:
ATTACK_ENEMIES
BUILD_MORALE
LAW_MAKING
MAKE_INTRODUCTIONS
MAKE_TOPIC_AGREEMENTS
MILITARY_GOALS
MILITARY_STRATEGY
PATROL_TERRITORY
RELIGION

(BTW, one thing that I've already noted is that the LAW_MAKING token apparently is NOT required for a position to issue mandates, as it is not found on the mayor position by default)

The other minor questions that I mentioned are as follows:

2.) Does the SPOUSE_FEMALE tag designate the title of the noble's spouse if the Spouse is female OR does it designate the title of the noble's spouse if the Noble is female. (similar question for SPOUSE_MALE)

3.) With regard to number of position holders, what constitutes "AS_NEEDED"

4.) Is there any way to require that a position holder have two seperate offices?

5.) Can anyone give more details of how the CONQUERED_SITE tag functions?

6.) How exactly are SQUADs handled in-game?

EDIT: Also, (7) what do the following tokens do?:
ALLOWED_CREATURE
ALLOWED_CLASS
REJECTED_CREATURE
REJECTED_CLASS

(Preliminary tests by D_E seem to indicate that ALLOWED_CLASS and REJECTED_CLASS restrict position holders by [CREATURE_CLASS:] token, but we're still not very sure about ALLOWED_CREATURE and REJECTED_CREATURE)

EDIT: Added MILITARY_GOALS to the list of unexplained responsibilities.

Specifically, does anybody know the specific effects of the following responsibilities:
ATTACK_ENEMIES : Might only affect legends, but seems pretty self-explanatory.
BUILD_MORALE : Talk with citizens/get yelled at
LAW_MAKING  : No Clue. Anyone?
MAKE_INTRODUCTIONS : Not sure. Possibly not implemented?
MAKE_TOPIC_AGREEMENTS : More Unimped diplomacy stuff.
MILITARY_STRATEGY : Runs the military. I think this just determines who does what in Legends.
PATROL_TERRITORY : Might only affect legends, but seems pretty self-explanatory.
RELIGION : Might only affect legends, but seems pretty self-explanatory.

the spouse-female tag is for when the spouse is female. Duke's wives are called "duchess consorts"

3.) With regard to number of position holders, what constitutes "AS_NEEDED"
This means another one will pop up to fill in the Nobles screen, each time you add a new one. there's no upper limit.

4.) Is there any way to require that a position holder have two seperate offices?
Not that I know of. You could simulate it by requiring that they own more chairs and tables.

5.) Can anyone give more details of how the CONQUERED_SITE tag functions?
I think it's a little flaky at the moment? Not sure.

6.) How exactly are SQUADs handled in-game?
Pretty sure it's a dwarf-mode only thing. Squads are the basic military unit. Your dwarves fight in units of (up to) 10, and enemies come in multiples of squads.

Thanks for the feedback. Seems useful.

The one thing that I'm not sure about though, is your response re. the BUILD_MORALE token. While 'Talk with citizens/get yelled at' would seem the intuitive effect of that token, it seems that by default the BUILD_MORALE argument is found on the CHAMPION (and only the CHAMPION), which (combined with the fact that this 'Talk with citizens/get yelled at' is essentially the description given on the wiki of the MEET_WORKERS) would seem to cast this explanation into doubt

The religeon tag does not only effect legends. However, its effect on fortress mode is minimal. If you have a noble with the religeon tag then when two dwarves get married you will get this anouncement "X and Y dwarf have decided to forgo a formal ceremony" or something like that I can't remember the exact text. In the future when toady implements more religeous stuff this might mean more than the simple message but right now it does do something albiet very minor.

One of the dwarfs walked in front of Thor to get a better view of the prye, and Thor kicked him irritably into the middle of the flames, which made Thor feel slightly better and made all the dwarfs feel much worse.

I don't think that we can specify a required number of owned tables and chairs at this point. (But it strikes me as the kind of thing that I should probably post a suggestion about in the suggestions forum...)

In order to have a nondwarven military, you have to make sure to get it set up exactly right.

As a matter of fact, I don't even know if it's possible to have one without copy/pasting the entries for their militia commander/captains/etc. and changing the nonvitals.

Speaking of military, I forgot to list the MILITARY_GOALS tag/argument as one of the responsibilities with unknown effects/meanings.

I'm gonna go correct that right now...

If I recall, you need your highest military position to have [RESPONSIBILITY:MILITARY_STRATEGY] or else you can't make squads. I think, it was something like that.

Pretty sure this means that he goes around and gives demonstrations to the military.  Not sure though - I've never actually gotten this guy in a fortress before.  Maybe I'll mod him in earlier.
