Perpetually Rising Brook
« on: March 29, 2008, 05:06:00 pm »

I started a new fortress in an area with a brook waterfall.  A few months later I look at the brook again and notice that near the base of the waterfall some of the brook squares have been covered up by water.  Now not even a full year has elapsed, and the entire level of brook tiles has been covered up.  At this rate, the entire map will be flooded in about 20 years.  Now my fortress is probably not going to last that long, but its still a troublesome prospect.

Channel out some squares around where the water is falling, the tiles under a brook act kinda like aquifers so the water will just drain into them.

But first make a copy of the save, in case Toady wants it.

I've seen this before, but I'm not sure what's going on.  The water should be evacuated out the map edge by the pressure routine, but it doesn't happen.  I can take a look at the save if you'd like to send it.
