crash on embark
« on: January 19, 2011, 10:54:07 am »

I spend hours messing with worldgen and finally getting a perfect embark spot, and after I plan for departure and select embark, the game just crashes.

I have tried resetting all worldgen parameters and genning a new world. No luck. I tried deleting my entire game directory and clean installing. No luck.

Has anyone ran into something similar?

edit: This is 31.18, and I have played this version for weeks without a hitch.

If you embark with 2 biomes in the same area you get this.

I should know, my "perfect" embarks crashed cus of it ._.

What?? Having 2 biomes means a crash? Since when? I have done tons of embarks that are part mountain part forest, etc.

I've embarked on a nexus of four biomes O.o

Elephants, and jaguars, and alligators, oh my!
Marble, and limestone, and obsidian, oh my!
River, and wind, and magma, oh my!

It was the perfectest place I had ever found.

maybe you've got some crazy magma-mountain-adamantine-spire-cavein thing going on and the computer can't process it. Is it crashing on the "You have arrived..." screen or when you press enter after that?

You could try making an adventurer and just walk over there to see if something crazy is on the site.

The problem is that I have tried several sites and even genning several new worlds. I am stumped...

It crashes right before the "you have arrived" screen.

Might just be the game interacting oddly with your OS. I have 2 computers: one runs linux, the other win7. Embarking ALWAYS works fine on my linux computer, but on the win7 computer, it rarely gets to the you have arrived screen. Idk if this might be whats going on, but this is what happens to me on win7. (Just to add on to that, the win7 computer is about 42 times better than the linux one, so that makes me think: OS.)

EDIT: But I am NOT recommending you get a new OS, unless you have linux, in that case, try a different version.

How much ram do you have?
What size embark dimensions, coupled with how many Z levels?

While its trying to load, watch the task manager for memory usage and see how close it gets to 2 gigs.

Finally got it to work. I just had to gen a bunch more worlds. I guess something was probably screwy with  the world gens.
