Reclaiming a fort
« on: January 19, 2011, 03:55:01 pm »

Right, long story short: 5 Ambushes + woefully unprepaired military = !!FUN!!

I dearly wish to reclaim this fort as it has grown on me but when I embark to do so, theres 13 hostile gobbos waiting to take me out. My normal embark party usually has a decent axe dwarf doubiling as an tree cutter early on. Even so, unless they come one at a time I doubt I have much chance...

So I need suggestions on how to claim my fortress back but with a sensible party that will still be able to survive afterwards with decent farming and crafting skills.

Suggestions?

Send a reclaim consisting of all axedwarves, kill goblins, abandon again, reclaim with a normal group.

You can survive just fine without crafting skills. I've done initial embarks and reclaims with dwarves that have no skills at all.

Send in an adventurer first, with a dozen buddies.

What are the chances of simply walking into a new group of goblins when I re-embark after my war party?

@forsaken1111

I was tempted to do so though have a thing for having decent skilled dwarfs from the get go... Migrants are mainly useless unless mixed with Magma.

@LoveChild

Will with shame admit I've only tried adventure mode twice and failed utterly each time... Not dwarfy enough.

If you kill them all, zero.

I suppose, but the dwarves gain skill levels fairly quickly.

Aren't conquering goblins friendly until the first siege?  Or was that "feature" fixed?

Using v31.18 and they're deffinatly hostile on embark. No mods other than IronHands graphics so that wouldnt be the reason.

I do recall they were friendly in earlier games I played, all in v31. So suppose it has been 'fixed'?

Yes, goblins are now hostile when you embark.
