Well, for now the government is basically playing a game of "But you did it too!" Reminding the opposition that while they were in power, they didn't criticize Ben Ali.

I wonder who will believe that they really cannot grasp the difference between "Keeping good relations with a neighbour" and "Helping crush a democratic revolution".

Seems silly to complain that people didn't speak up; under Ben Ali there were harsh penalties for speaking your mind from what I understand. It took a guy setting himself on fire to get people active this time.

Not that the opposition is necessarily any good, I'd personally not vote for anyone involved in the political system before this day.

He's speaking about the French opposition. France supported Ben Ali. Now they are annoyed.

I definitely underestimated the situation in Tunisia. Now I'm wondering if 2011 will be the Arab world's 1848?

Will be watching Egypt very carefully.

I'd go a step further and say that might even happen in some European countries, particularly on the Eurozone periphery.

Well, it'll be interesting to see how the referendum for South Sudan independence will go. I'd say the odds of a new civil war are as high as the odds of a democratic revolution.
