Check legends while a Dwarf Fortress game in progress?

Hey guys,

Is there any way I can check legends even though I have a game up already?

I think there is some way to copy out the save but everything I've tried leaves only the "Create new world" option and not "Start playing"

Any clues?

Save game.
Copy save folder to some other directory.
Load game.
Abandon fortress.
Start playing -> legends mode.

Afterwards...
Copy back into save folder
Load game.

Dont do that last bit... he'll lose his fortress...

What I do is copy the region1 folder into a second copy of dwarf fortress, clearly labeled with LEGENDS. Can look at legends (minus current events) at the same time as playing then, with no risk of accidentally copying the wrong thing ontop of the other.

I dump the Legends info prior to embarking into a XML file and then parse it with a small tool I wrote. But the information is not as detailed as that in normal Legends mode but browsing is faster (and has more stats). Perhaps v.19 will have better support of the XML format and be able to dumb it during fortress mode. :)
