currently i have a stone crafter, that i suppose can make some pretty decent crafts, and a skilled mason.

how do i get the stone crafter to work on the stone crafts workshop, and the mason to work on the other workshop?

Assign a manager, then (q)uery the workshop (P)rofile it so only the dwarf you want can use it.
Alternatively burrows.

Just disable stonecrafting for the mason and disable masonry for the stonecrafter?

For more advanced stuff like getting the low skill masons to make blocks to train up and the good masons to make furniture you'll have to use workshop profiles.

doh, disabling masonry worked like a charm, for some reason i thought masonry was needed to be activated to use the craftdwarfs workshop

ok i am about 3 or so hours into this fortress, and i have no anvil?

how do i get one? i think part of my caravan was destroyed when i started the game because it was right next to a lake, so i might have lost it

My first caravan never fails to bring me bloody 3 anvils. I only want one at that point! MAYBE two, if I'm going heavy metals.
