Mysterious construction- guess it
« on: January 16, 2011, 06:40:57 pm »

So this is the 3rd time one of my dwarves has had a strange mood (oddly, they have all been possessed moods), and I saw he was best at masonry (he is better at other things, but masonry is his best skill that's used by moods). So he grabs:
-(1) Olivine
-(1) Limestone
-(1) Gypsum
-(14) Deer bones
-(1) Pine log
-(1) Rough fortification agate

So I'm thinking, "Wtf?! He's a mason not a mason-capenter-bone crafter-gem cutter/setter!! So I'm making this challenge to see If anyone can guess what he's making, because I have no idea. I'll post what is was after he's done (probably in 5 minutes, I'll leave you guys some time). Whatever it is, I think it'll be precious.

What kind of workshop did he claim? Also, he's definitively taken some of the stuff for, ya know, decoration. Like a Limestone cabinet menacing with spikes of deer bone.

Also strange moods don't really depend on what skill you have highest. I think.

They depend entirely on your dwarf's highest skill.

It will be a piece of olivine furniture, with one decoration each in:oliving, limestone, gypsum, deer bone, pine, and fortification agate. It will neither be a bracelet or a bucket.

K. Unless it's not viable for strange moods. Like fishing.

Highest moodable skill. That's why I modded my dwarves to have innate adequate armorsmithing.

Then it is always something out of the craftsdwarf's workshop.

He's taking longer than I thought, but heres more info:

A strange mood will use the dwarfs highest skill that IS "moodable" (look in wiki).
He took a masons workshop, I forgot to mention it.
He also is using 1 rope reed fiber cloth (also forgot to mention).
And *usually* the item produced is one of their likes, but in this case I agree that it most likely will not be a bucket or bracelet.

EDIT: I'll post the results in about 10-30 minutes (I have to go somewhere and at this rate, i'l take that long to get some guesses.)

No, then it depends on their next-highest skill, and so on until they're out of skills, then it goes to wood/stone/bonecrafting.

I'm betting either a floodgate, table, or cabinet.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

When a dwarf is possessed, he doesn't gain legendary status. So... is the artifact created dependant at all of the dwarf skills? I've never looked at it myself, but maybe you guys have.

I hate when my dwarves are possessed. I WANT LEGENDS!!! Strangely, in my last fortress over half of my strange moods are possessions. In previous versions this was not the case. "C'était mieux avant" (or not).

Marthnn likes obsidian, steel, star ruby, goblin-cap wood, the color bloody red and giant desert scorpions for their tails. When possible, he prefers to consume sunshine. He absolutely detests cave blobs.

A dwarf wants to heal.  A dwarf is motivated to heal.  A dwarf is, by Armok, going to heal or die trying!  Because if he doesn't heal, he doesn't get alcohol.

Oh lol, none of you got it...

'Panama' Tiristraz, Suturer has created Dallithshed, a olivine weapon rack!

Weight: 26 Basic Value: 13200

This is a olivine weapon rack. All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encrusted with limestone and fortification agate and encircled with bands of olivine and rope reed fiber. This object is adorned with hanging rings of deer bone and menaces with spikes of pine.
On the item is an image of goblins and dwarves in gypsum. The goblins are fighting with the dwarves. The artwork relates to the attack on The Rim of Skulls of The Theater of Naming at Laborstreamy by The New Tick in the midwinter of 153 during Sukxusmumuz, "The Squeezing Attack".

A weapon rack with a picture of a battle on it!?  That must be your new barracks, nay, it must be the centerpiece of an entire z-level dedicated to the strength of your military, with weapon racks and armor stands ringed with adamantite armor and masterwork engravings.
