Do humans, goblins, and elves need to eat?

I have an idea, but I need to know if they need to eat/drink. I want to make one fall in a pit with lots of repeating spike traps (for training), and somehow make it go insane. Then, I'm gonna drop more invaders in the pit and make them fight the prisoner.

Creatures which belong to your fortress need to eat.  Invaders, traders, and diplomats don't need to eat.  Invaders don't go insane, but diplomats and traders will.

Yes. Rinse and repeat until you get the right, berserk kind of insane.
Albeit there is a certain charm in letting loose goblins on an incomprehensibly babbling, naked fortress guard as well :D

What I do not understand is why Pet Humans do not have any needs, but apparantly, Pet Elves do need to drink and eat.
Darn Elves.
Also, Elves dont get adopted by Dwarves much.
I had one fort with an Administrator that had 4 female Pet Elves.
Dont imagine shit though. We all know that Dwarves and Elves can't crossbreed.

I think we just found the origins of humans.  And there wasn't any !!SCIENCE!! involved, which is always disappointing.

Also, is that a mod, or did you just put [PET] in the other races' raws?  Do other sentient races still function normally?

Put [PET] into Elf Raw...
Then modded embark with DFusion...
I wanted to use them for !!Decoration!!. Appearently, Modded Embark Creatures count as your civilisation, however I had a Tame Dragon that had no needs at all.

I believe this was mentioned in DF talk.

Humans farm.

Elves don't farm, but they gather plants and eat absolutely anything (including humanoids).

Kobolds live off vermin.

Goblins don't eat.
